What is Bond Paper (Offset Paper) ?

The term “bond paper” gets its name from the late 1800s when this durable paper was used in the creation of government bonds and other official documents. Today, bond paper is used to print much more than government bonds, but the name remains. Bond paper can also be called uncoated woodfree paper (UWF), uncoated fine papers, in Chinese market we also call it Offset paper.

Offset paper is not always white. The color and brightness of paper depend on the wood pulp bleaching process, while "brightness" refers to the amount of light reflected under typical lighting conditions. So there are two common types of uncoated paper:
White Paper: Most common, maximizes readability of black-and-white text.
Natural Paper: Cream-colored, barely bleached, gentler or traditional tone.

The glued surface gives offset paper a coarse structure. This makes the paper ideal for printing with a laser or ink-jet printer, writing with a ballpoint pen, fountain pen and others or stamping. The higher the paper weight of offset stock, the more sturdy of the paper.

Offset paper is the standard stock used in business correspondence. Due to its uncoated surface, offset paper has a high printing ink absorption. As a result, the colour reproduction is less intensive than on art print paper, for example. Offset paper is suitable for simple designs with few images.

Offset paper is commonly used for office supplies, full-color images, illustrations, text, soft covers(paperbacks), and text-based publications, providing a classic appearance for notebook pages in various textures and colors. However, it is not suitable for high-quality color photos.

The key difference of copier paper and offset paper is the formation. Copier paper typically has poor formation than offset paper, which means the paper fibers are distributed unevenly.

When you put ink on paper, as with offset printing, the paper is the crucial factor in how the ink lays down.

Solid areas of ink look mottled. Offset papers are better designed to hold ink.
